I
was brought up in the lovely countryside of the Westcountry,
and my only contact with Christianity was the occasional visit
to the local village church to which my parents were loosely
affiliated. The RE and chapel services at school didn't make
much sense to me, and it was not until I was at university in
my early twenties that I was really challenged to consider the
claims of Christianity. This was through a number of people
who were committed to Jesus and His gospel and who were prepared
to step out and even be rejected to share their faith. All this
I resisted and opposed for a while, until I was actually convinced
factually that Jesus was real and that the evidence points very
heavily to the fact that His claims were true. At that point
I made a slightly reluctant commitment to Him, still assuming
that Christianity would be "religious". However this
started a whole new life and direction for me.
Before long I was working for a church in London and later
married Jane whom I met there. We now have two children, Sarah
and Kate.
Before training for ordination I spent about six months with
a travelling Christian Theatre Company in Europe with Youth
With A Mission. This was not just a fruitful and interesting
time where we saw many turn to Christ and join local churches,
but for me it was significant as I was filled with the Holy
Spirit for the first time. Later I spent several months working
in the slums of Colombia, also with YWAM and saw the local church
plants growing fantastically fast.
I then spent six years working for a church in inner-city Blackpool
that saw some very significant growth before moving to Aldershot.
I have been here since July 1999.
We have seen quite a few encouragements and some growth here
and my vision is for more. I hope that we will be able to create
several different service styles, not necessarily all in the
church building and not necessarily all on a Sunday. We also
want to reach out to the people of Aldershot more effectively
with the gospel of Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Do join us in this venture!
